How To Manage Your Weight The Easy Way

There is no secret to managing your weight. While trendy diet gimmicks come and go, the fundamental realities of human metabolism never change. By following these three simple guidelines, you can make sure you’re watching what you eat and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Weight Loss Tip 1: Healthy Diet

Don’t eat too much. Diet is very important to maintaining a healthy weight. Food is, after all, our only source of energy and multiple vitamins our body doesn’t make on its own. The saying goes, weight is lost in the kitchen, not in the gym. You can exercise all day but if you’re eating huge amounts of fatty or processed foods, you’re not going to see much of a change in your weight. While there are a few foods you can eat in large portions (see below), you’ll want to keep your portions small. These are the recommended portion sizes for different food types:
Vegetables: 5 servings per day, or about 375g
Fruits: 4 servings per day, or about 300g
Grains: 6 servings per day, or about 450g
Dairy: 3 servings per day, or about 325g
Lean meats, like chicken or turkey, and eggs: 8 servings or 600g per week
Fish and other seafood: 3 servings per week or 225g
Healthy fats and oils, like extra virgin olive oil: 3 servings per day, or about 325g

Weight Loss Tip 2: Portion Sizes

Watch what you eat. The portion sizes are important, but what you eat is also an important factor to consider. The above guide shows that larger servings of vegetables, for instance, would be a much better choice than the same amount of pizza or pasta. Also, don’t be tricked by the “organic” label–while organic farming might be better for the environment, there is no evidence that it’s healthier than conventional farming. If you can, you might even want to consider growing your own vegetables, so you know exactly where it’s coming from. There’s not much more satisfying than eating a tomato you grew yourself.

Weight Loss Tip 3: Exercise

Move a little. While exercise itself is not guaranteed to make you lose excess weight, studies show that even a moderate amount of exercise can make a great deal of difference in your overall health. Simply by taking a short walk around the block every day, you can make your body’s metabolism more efficient, and can prevent a whole bunch of other maladies.

Other things you can do to lose weight include making sure you eat breakfast and lunch. Sometimes you might fast for religious or other reasons but always eat at regular times if you can. More simple tricks are to use a smaller plate than you normally would and, as always, make sure you’re drinking enough water.
