FUE vs. hair transplant FUT

Hello and welcome back to Starks, today we’re talking about the difference between two hair transplant methods, the Fut technique , better known as the Strip Autotransplant and the innovative Fue One Touch technique , an improvement of the more well-known Fue technique . We remind you that you can receive more information by filling out the appropriate form in the contact section, or you can receive a first free visit by going to our hair transplant center in Milan in via Montebello 27.

Let’s proceed one step at a time and try to best describe what the Fut autotransplantation technique consists of .

FUT hair transplant

The FUT (follicular unit transplant) is considered the “classic” hair transplant technique in the past it was the most used technique and it has been for many years. After an initial visit, a portion of scalp (strip) is selected and taken from the nape of the neck, considered the best donor area as it is not subjected to hormonal influences which generally favor hair loss.

The individual strips, after being removed from the nape of the neck, are immersed in a solution which allows the follicles present in the strips to be able to generate new follicles after the transplant has taken place. The session continues with the dismemberment of the entire strip of scalp into individual follicles so that they can subsequently be re-grafted into the recipient area through incisions made with a scalpel. This first phase of explantation and grafting is concluded by applying a few stitches in the donor area, finally obtaining a linear scar approximately 2 millimeters thick. The scar is very thin and difficult to identify at first sight.

Once the transplant is complete, the patient leaves the clinic but will have to go to the clinic the following day to:

  • Perform a head wash
  • Allow doctors to re-check all grafts
  • Receive all the information necessary for the care and washing of the scalp

Generally at the end of the operation and in the following 7 days there will be a feeling of swelling and numbness of the scalp and within the twelfth day the surgeon removes the stitches from the donor area.
The operated area will remain atrophied for a period of time that can vary from one to three months, but the first results of the transplant will be visible as early as the third month and it will be possible to proceed with the first Tricopigmentation session, useful for concealing post-operative scars . The definitive result of the Fut autotransplant will be appreciable in its entirety about a year after the first session.

These, in general, are the typical steps of hair transplantation with the Fut technique , even if there may be small variations based on the center where you operate.

FUE hair transplant

As for our variant of the Fue method , the Fue One Touch , which we perform in our new hair transplant and care center in Milan in via Montebello 27, the steps to follow are different and greatly simplify the whole procedure.

The concept is similar: explanting the follicles from a donor area and grafting them into a so-called “recipient” area, the initial phase is almost identical to the Fue autotransplantation technique . We export the individual follicles (and not a strip, as occurs for the Fut ), and we keep them for the time of the operation in a solution (Hypo Thermosol®) to allow the follicles to stay alive and be able to reproduce in the phase following the graft in the receiving area. The special feature of our method is the way individual follicles are reimplanted in the recipient area of the scalp. To do this we use a particular tool that we have called Choi Injectorwhich allows us to operate a much more accurate graft than any other type of transplant currently practiced using titanium needles. Thanks to our particular injector we are able to take individual follicles and graft them without having to make incisions with a scalpel. The final result is very natural, aesthetically more homogeneous and more precise as for each graft we establish the inclination, depth and proximity between the follicles. Another advantage is less trauma to both the scalp and the individual follicles, reducing mechanical stress to a minimum, allowing for considerable engraftment of the follicles and less trauma (and pain) for the patient. In addition , the Fue One Touch autotransplant , unlike the classic Fut, by not foreseeing the removal of the scalp strip, it avoids scars, shortens healing times and avoids a second intervention after some time to remove the stitches.
