If you’re considering hair transplant surgery, there are some vital steps to take before the procedure. From quitting smoking and avoiding aspirin products in the weeks preceding your appointment to getting enough restful sleep each night leading up – these pre-operative instructions will ensure that everything goes as smoothly and safely as possible on the day of your operation.

Surgical Consultation

Before embarking on your hair transplant journey, it’s essential to consult with a qualified surgeon who will review all the factors that could influence your results. During this pre-procedure meeting, you’ll discuss expectations and goals while they evaluate both scalp health and hair condition.

Medications, Smoking, and Alcohol

Prior to surgery, make sure your surgeon knows which medications you are currently taking – even if they’re just over-the-counter drugs, supplements and vitamins. Quitting smoking at least two weeks prior and following will significantly reduce risks associated with healing and minimize potential complications. You should also avoid drinking alcohol for at least 24 hours before the surgery. Alcohol can interfere with the effectiveness of anesthesia and increase the risk of bleeding.

Haircut

You should not have a haircut for at least 10 days before the surgery. This will give your surgeon more hair to work with during the procedure. If you have a haircut too close to your surgery, it may make it more difficult for your surgeon to access certain areas of your scalp. Waiting at least 10 days after your last haircut can provide your surgeon with more flexibility during the procedure and help ensure that your surgery goes smoothly.

The Day of the Procedure

You should shower the night before or the morning of the surgery, and avoid using any hair styling products. You should arrange for someone to drive you home after the surgery. You should not drive yourself as the effects of anesthesia may impair your driving ability.

It is recommended that you wear comfortable clothing on the day of the surgery, and avoid wearing anything that needs to be pulled over your head. Finally, you should avoid eating or drinking anything for at least 6 hours before the surgery. This is to reduce the risk of nausea and vomiting during the procedure.

Prior to undergoing hair transplant surgery, it’s important to follow your physician’s instructions for a safe and successful outcome. Don’t be shy about asking questions or voicing any concerns you may have prior – that way, together with the doctor, you can ensure everything runs as smoothly as possible.
